If You Haven't Listened To Audio Books Here Are Some Reasons Why You Should

by Gregg Hall

As a small child we learn to read. With this new found ability, we read everything that we see. For some of us, this joy of reading sticks with us throughout our lives. As we get older, we become busier and have less time to read. When we become older yet, our lives start to slow down but then people may have vision problems that restrict their ability to read. Several years ago there was a solution to this, and it has become quiet popular. The solution was books on tape. What a wonderful idea.

These books on tape could be played in your house whenever you wanted. You could clean your house while getting through several chapters of a book at the same time. If you had a cassette player in your car, you could listen to a book while you drove. As time went out, cassettes became replaced by CDs, and now MP3 players. There are still tape players and books on tape, but now, you can get them in a variety of formats so no matter what, everyone should be able to listen to a book.

You can take your CD walkman or MP3 player and go on a walk, listening to your favorite book. The great thing is that these books on tape have become so popular that there is a huge variety for you to choose from. You can listen to a mystery book on your way to work. On your way home, you can listen to a drama, and on your walk in the evening, you can listen to a relaxing story or a love story before bed.

The nice thing about audio books is that you don't have to buy them. You can get them from your local library; you can rent them, or even join a book club where you swap books.

Audio books are a great way for using your downtime. When you just want to relax and the TV is too distracting or there is nothing on to watch. When sitting at the airport waiting for you plane to arrive. These are so easy just to put in your portable player and you can start and stop the book whenever you want with just a push of a button. Who says you can't read in the dark? Now you can. If you have never listened to an audio book before, I encourage you to go find your favorite author and try one out.

If you are not sure what type of book you would like, or if a certain book appeals to you or not, you can find sites on the internet that charge only by what you listen to. That way you get a sample of the book to help determine if it is one you would want to purchase. I think if you tried it once, you would really enjoy it.

Why Listening To Audio Books Is Becoming So Popular

Reading is one the best ways to learn and keep your mind working. For young children it helps to build vocabulary and teach spelling. Reading also encourages you to put your imagination to work by seeing and hearing the story in your own mind. As we get older, we still enjoy reading but seem to have less time for it. A great development several years ago that has grown to become more popular is the use of audio books. Audio books are a great way to read a book when you don't have the time to actually read.

Reading is a favorite pass time of many. Imagine a rainy or cold afternoon. What is better than cuddling up with a warm blanket and a good book? Now you can still do the same thing, but instead of you doing the reading, the book is read to you. These audio books are just as relaxing and you still get to use your imagination. Unlike TV where the story is told to you and the pictures are also there for you to see. Here, the story is told to you but you must use your imagination to see the characters and the events.

It would be great for children also. They would be using their imagination and would get to hear a story of their favorite characters. This is for sure better than watching a cartoon on TV. Also for children, and for adults, there are audio books for learning. Do you need a fun way for your child to learn more about history without making it seem like homework? Do your research on these books, there is such a variety I'm sure there is something you would like.

Audio books can be supplied on a cassette tape, a CD, MP3 which is similar to a CD, or you can play them off an iPod or from the internet. Just about anyplace you are, you will be able to listen to your book. There are several places in which to purchase or even rent a book. The internet is probably the best choice as they have large selections and you can also read book reviews prior to purchasing or renting a book. Your public library also has audio books for you.

The voices on the books can be from one narrator or from a couple different ones to portray each character. Some well known TV stars have even narrated some of these books.

Audio books can be from a variety of types. Fiction, Non Fiction, mystery, love stories, self help, western, or just about anything you would want. Since about 1995, mostly any book that has been published, is now also on audio tape or CD. There are also children books on audio that would be great for those long trips. I'm sure there is a book for everyone in your family.
